Fostering Attachments Ltd Level 3 Diploma in Therapeutic Parenting

The Diploma in Therapeutic Parenting is a Customised Award pitched at Level 3 standard and is accredited by NCFE a Nationally Recognised Awarding Body in the United Kingdom. The Diploma is made up of 10 units in total, 7 compulsory and 3 optional modules.

The Diploma can be completed in one year, but may be completed over two if necessary. The course is entirely online, however Learners have the option to attend face to face training.  Learners will be able to attend between 2 to 4 face to face workshops/training courses during the course, which comprise of a 6 hour training day (on average). Face to face training will take place nationwide and learners will be given the option of attending training which is closest to them in proximity. Course Objectives

  • Give learners a comprehensive overview of how children become traumatised, the effects on the child, and the resulting behaviours.
  • Enable learners to understand the importance of using therapeutic parenting techniques with children who have experienced early childhood trauma.
  • Identify reasons why children with attachment difficulties provoke strong responses in Carers.
  • Enable Carers to recognise their own responses to children with attachment difficulties.
  • Assist carers in recognising and managing compassion fatigue/ blocked care.
  • Provide parents and carers with the skills and knowledge to avoid feeling disempowered and therefore lessen the impact of blocked care. (compassion fatigue)
  • Provide supporting professionals and mentoring carers with the skills and knowledge to identify manage and support others in blocked care. (optional unit)
  • Equip parents and carers with the skills and knowledge to begin to work therapeutically with children with attachment difficulties.
  • Enable parents and carers to apply practical therapeutic parenting behaviour management strategies, when working with children who have suffered early life trauma.
  • Enable parents, carers and supporting professionals to identify therapeutic parenting models and apply the P.A.C.E model.
  • Equip parents, carers and supporting professionals with the tools to solve complex relationship issues between professionals and carers caring for traumatised children.

Our course has been accredited by NCFE, an awarding organisation recognised by the qualification regulators for England and Wales. NCFE’s regulators are the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) in England, and the Welsh Government in Wales. This course isn’t regulated by Ofqual but has been accredited by NCFE as a Customised Award.

This course has been accredited as a Customised Award and we have benchmarked the course’s learning outcomes at Level 3 (using a notional framework’s level descriptors) to allow you to consider the difficulty and depth of study.

Continual Professional Development

The Diploma will develop learners knowledge and understanding of developmental trauma, attachment theory, therapeutic parenting models and strategies.

As a therapeutic parent this will give them confidence to apply strategies and use therapeutic parenting with confidence.

It will also provide evidence for Continual Professional Development (CPD) for parents and professionals who work with children and their families, adding a specialism to their toolkit of skills.

Therapeutic Parenting Coach

Recommended by National Association of Therapeutic Parents NATP

The Diploma will enable learners to gain the knowledge and experience to enable to work in a support/advocacy role when working with parents and children with developmental trauma.

On successful completion of the Diploma learners will have the opportunity to enrol on the Therapeutic Parenting Coach Certificate endorsed by NATP which will allow them to develop skills in order to support other parents to develop their skills in Therapeutic Parenting and facilitate support groups.  Learners will be added to NATP’s recommended professionals list for Therapeutic Parenting support services.
