Support for carers living with children with Attachment Disorder
We provide a service to anyone who is living with a child with Attachment Disorder and would like support this can be someone to speak to for support, provide strategies or support with a meeting. This can be done over the phone or at a location of your choice. The first 30 minutes are free, allprices are negotiable and you will be made aware of these form the start.
Managing Feelings (for Carers) - 1 day
This course assists carers to identify compassion fatigue and to acknowledge their own feelings and responses to children with Attachment Difficulties and/ or challenging behaviour. ‘Inspire’ believe that this is a fundamental keystone to being able to implement any subsequent strategy effectively.
Managing Feelings (for professionals) - 1 day
This course helps supporting professionals who work with carers to identify and manage compassion fatigue and to assist carers to engage in ‘Therapeutic Parenting’. The trainers enable supporting professionals to identify and reject the usual ‘blame and withdraw’ model’, where there is actual or likely disruption and allows workers to work intensively alongside the Carers, engaging in the ‘therapeutic parenting’ model. Is it just me? Compassion Fatigue Workshop - 1 day
An informal ‘no holds barred’ facilitated session/s for Carers and Parents to speak openly and honestly about the impact the children they care for have had on their lives. This frequently led to a deeper understanding of Secondary Trauma, self recognition and an ability to take action in the future to avoid.
Therapeutically Re Parenting adolescents - 1 day
An overview for Carers, Parents and care professionals who are looking after teenagers with Attachment Difficulties. Explores how those Attachment difficulties manifest and applies some of the behaviour management strategies specifically to this parenting. Trainers assist participants to begin to look at the differences between re parenting younger children and the challenges they face as their child gets older. Explanation is given about the changing brain and how this is an excellent time to improve outcomes. An open dialogue is encouraged.</span> <strong>NB: This course works best when delivered to those who have already attended Managing Feelings and can be delivered after Strategies to Manage Behaviour, as the behaviours and strategies are different.
Therapeutic Parenting (PACE) in Real Life - 1 day
This course is delivered to a mixed group of adopters/foster carers and supporting professionals to help solve complex relationship issues between carers and supporting professionals which often arise when caring for children with attachment difficulties. Improves communication, empathy and understanding.
Strategies to Manage Behaviour - 2 days
This course is best delivered as day two and three, following straight on from the ‘Managing Feelings’ course. The trainers assist participants to relate the training to real life events and problems and to implement strategies which have proved effective. Includes De-escalation strategies as required under the new NMS (fostering). A key message is empowering parents and carers to lessen the effects of Secondary Trauma.
Understanding Attachment and the Therapeutic Parent (for Panel members) - 1 day
This course is designed specifically for Panel Members to gain a good understanding of how Therapeutic Foster Carers and Professionals work with children presenting attachment difficulties. Improves empathy and understanding during the reviewing process.
'What About Carers' - 1 day
This course is designed to develop knowledge and skills to manage personal stress, recognise stress and anxiety in yourself and others, the impact of stress on your practice, the impact of stress on your own health, self-care, mindfulness techniques, handling pressures and the demands of separation and endings.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder - 1 day
To give an overview and an increase understanding of oppositional defiant disorder, increased knowledge of what causes this disorder, how the disorder manifests through the child’s behaviour, management skills for the disorder. Will also find out about developing awareness of current treatments and interventions

Understanding the Attachment Disorder Child - 2 days
This course looks at the causes of attachment disorder, how attachment disorder is communicated through behaviours. This course aims to give carers and adopters a greater understanding of the inner world of an attachment disordered child. Raises awareness of typical behaviours and how to manage those, will help carers develop strategies to promote secure attachments. By the end of this course participants will have a sound knowledge of attachment disorders and how they are directly related to certain behaviours.
Understanding and Managing Sexually Problematic Behaviour - 2 days
This course helps carers and Adopters to identify healthy and age appropriate sexualised behaviour and inappropriate sexualised behaviour. To give carers a greater understanding of the causes of sexually problematic behaviours. To develop strategies to manage these behaviours. To minimise carers own anxiety about caring for a child who has these difficulties. Carers will have developed strategies to better monitor and manage this behaviour.
Understanding and Managing Eating Disorders in Traumatised Children and Young People - 2 days
This course will help carers to understand eating disorders and to identify different types of eating disorders, recognise the causes of eating disorders particularly in looked after and adopted children, and strategies to help manage eating disorders.
Domestic Abuse Awareness - 2 days
In this course it will explore the effects of domestic abuse upon children and what is considered to be domestic abuse. Re-enactment within placement/home. We will looks at the negative internal working models and how these play out in the home. Teaches how to break the cycle of abuse, reducing anxiety and promoting safety. Will also develop a greater understanding of how domestic abuse hinders child development, helping carers to manage behaviours linked to domestic abuse. Carers will have a deeper understanding of complex trauma arising from living with domestic, carers will have developed strategies to reduce re-enactments and promote safety in looked after children.
Therapeutic Foster Care - 2 days
This course looks at the role of the carer as the secure base using the ‘Therapeutic House Model’, each brick represents the components of therapeutic foster care. The promotion of safety and reduction of anxiety is explored throughout the day drawing on carers own experiences. The course aims to give carers and adopters the knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of therapeutic fostering, to build upon existing knowledge of attachment theory and how this relates to building resilience and reducing anxiety through using a therapeutic approach.
Developmental Awareness – 1 day
Enabling Adopters to look for and respond to their child’s developmental age in order to begin to heal developmental trauma and address issues from the child’s past.
Common themes are: Fear of transitions, Separation anxiety, Extreme anxiety leading to depression, Extreme anxiety leading to aggression, Overwhelm and temper tantrums, Cognitive delay, Speech and language difficulty, Sensory integration difficulty.
Adoption Preparation – 4 days
This course has four modules which have been specifically developed with the needs of adopters in mind.
Module 1: New beginnings – Exploring the issues facing parents of adoptive children.
Module 2: Identity and Expectations – The importance of identity and belongings. How to welcome a child into our lives. Expectations of parenthood and of the child.
Module 3: Attachments and Brain Development – Early attachments and the effects on physical and cognitive/ emotional development if the child has suffered developmental trauma.
